Do not behave towards them as if you are a wanting and starving beast and as if your success lies in devouring them. Your duty is not to seek love from people but to find the obstacle within yourself that you have built against their love.  ‘Words are a pretext. ‘When one loves an object it blinds one and the heart becomes ill. When this happens you see but with a diseased eye, hear but with unhearing ears. The world can make the heart die, but at the same time be an object of desire for the mind.  At this point, you become a slave to the world and a slave to the people whose only concern is this world. The heart of a human is amazing; it possesses both the substance of wisdom and it’s opposites. Your intellect longs to be like the righteous people so that you can be of one of them, and you love them so that you can be united with them in their love. But even if you fall short in emulating the actions of the righteous, do not become enslaved to your desires. Juma Mubarak’ Shaykh Tahir

‘You will never be able to please everyone, rather rectify what is between you and Allah and do not care about the people. The ignorant one does not see his ignorance as he basks in its darkness; nor does the knowledgeable one see his own knowledge, for he basks in its light. The mind of a wise person is the safest custody of secrets; cheerfulness is the key to friendship; patience and forbearance will conceal many defects. Be obscure and do not attempt to be famous, do not elevate yourself in order to be remembered. Learn and conceal, find safety in silence, you will please the righteous people and you will outrage the wicked. Juma Mubarak.’ Shaykh Tahir

‘The virtue of patience is one of the highest values of morality and nobility of character. It is the best habit which one can develop and then great things can be accomplished. When you are unable to resolve something through trying and praying, leave the decision to Allah as Allah always decides better for His followers. When you feel all is going wrong for you Allah will redirect you to something better. You must convince your heart that whatever Allah has decreed is right and most beneficial to you. Do not let your difficulties fill you with anxiety; after all it is only in the darkest nights that stars shine more brightly. You should have hope in Allah alone and should fear nothing but your sins. If you are on the way towards Allah, then run.  If it’s hard for you then jog; even crawl, but never stop or go back. ‘The beautiful qualities of a believer (the Shaykh) remain with him wherever he is. He motivates you in a positive direction and with this, your heart and soul will become at peace with Allah. People’s need of you is one of the blessings of Allah upon you. So do not scare away the needy people when they come to you, as then Allah’s blessings will be withdrawn and go elsewhere. Being in the company of the believer the light of divine secrets are open; and you will see your good deeds and the mercy of Allah. He is like a pearl from Allah. Juma Mubarak.’ Shaykh Tahir

‘For you to be useful to others you need to be useful to yourself and attend to your own needs; and when you do good, do not start to praise yourself because then your honour will leave you.  If you set yourself a journey to help others make sure you do not burn yourself out like a candle.  You must monitor your heart and limbs in every breath; so that you have the strength to rise to the commands of Allah. If He wishes you to be useful to His creatures, He will send you back to them and make room in your heart for them, empowering you to be firm, polite and strong enough to deal with the trouble they may cause.  He will open your breast and fill it with the elements of wisdom.  So now it will be He, not you. ‘Whoever loves for his heart to be clean, then let him make his private deeds better than his public deeds. You must observe the world around you and see how the people are deceived. They are taken into the trap of vanity, fame and wealth which they feel exalts them above others like kings and queens on thrones. This perceived beauty which attracts the admiration and attention of others blinds them and they are forever disillusioned. But then in one instant, life deals a blow and all is gone. Both the laughter and the sadness ends. However, do not be disheartened because if we had perfect power to determine our destiny and perfect eyes to see our future; we would choose exactly the fate that Allah has chosen for us. So, overcome your egos that you may be saved. Indeed you will appear before your Lord and answer for every deed. Juma Mubarak’ Shaykh Tahir
